How We Compare and How We Make Money

Transparency matters. This page explains exactly how we compare telehealth providers, how we generate revenue, and how we maintain editorial independence.

Our Comparison Methodology

Every provider comparison on this site follows a consistent methodology:

  1. Data collection: We gather pricing, features, bulk billing status, and service availability from provider websites, the Medicare Benefits Schedule, and direct enquiries
  2. Independent verification: We cross-reference provider claims against official sources (MBS Online, AHPRA registers, patient reviews)
  3. Standardised comparison: We compare providers on the same criteria, with the same definitions, using the same data collection methods
  4. Regular updates: We re-verify all pricing and feature data at least quarterly, with a "last verified" date displayed on every comparison

We do not allow providers to influence their position in comparison tables through payment. Default sorting is based on objective criteria (alphabetical, price, or review score), not commercial relationships.

How We Make Money

Compare Telehealth generates revenue through the following channels. Each is clearly disclosed wherever it appears on the site.

Featured Listings

Providers can pay for enhanced visibility in our comparison tables. Featured listings receive a highlighted border and a "Featured" badge. The listing position in the comparison table is not affected. Featured providers still display the same verified data as every other provider.

Sponsored Content

We occasionally publish sponsored articles or guides in partnership with telehealth providers. All sponsored content is clearly labelled with a "Sponsored" badge at the top of the page. Sponsored content is written or reviewed by our editorial team to ensure accuracy.

Referral Partnerships

Some providers have referral partnerships with us. When you click through to a provider and sign up, we may receive a referral fee. These links are marked with an "Affiliate" badge. The price you pay is the same whether you use our link or go directly to the provider.

Display Advertising

We may display advertising from relevant healthcare and health insurance providers. Advertising placements are clearly separated from editorial content and comparison data.

Editorial Independence

Our editorial and comparison content is produced independently of our commercial relationships. This means:

  • Paying providers receive the same comparison treatment as non-paying providers
  • Our editorial recommendations are based on verified data, not commercial relationships
  • We will include negative information about a provider (poor reviews, pricing increases, service issues) regardless of whether they are a paying partner
  • Our comparison methodology is the same for all providers

Australian Consumer Law Compliance

Compare Telehealth operates in compliance with the Australian Consumer Law (ACL). Under the ACL, we are required to:

  • Not mislead or deceive: All comparison data is verified and presented accurately
  • Disclose commercial relationships: All paid partnerships, sponsored content, and affiliate relationships are clearly labelled
  • Not make false or misleading representations: We do not misrepresent provider features, pricing, or availability
  • Distinguish advertising from editorial: Sponsored content is always labelled separately from independent editorial content

AHPRA Advertising Compliance

Under Section 133 of the National Law, we comply with AHPRA advertising requirements:

  • We do not use patient testimonials to promote specific providers
  • We do not make claims about health outcomes that cannot be substantiated
  • We do not use superlative terms like "best" or "number one" in provider descriptions
  • We present factual, verifiable comparison data rather than subjective endorsements
